Building our community through food
Community Food Swap – Northern Rivers NSW
What is a local community food swap?
A local community food swap is run by local volunteers at a designated meeting point and advertised for free on the events page of www.mixingwithmonica.com.au. Local home-grown and or homemade food based creations are swapped. Diversity on your door step with your community.
Who can be involved?
We would love to see everyone in our communities get involved, as long as you bring something grown or made. And if you’re coming alone, no worries – we won’t be strangers for long.
What can I bring to share?
Think fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, spices, honey, eggs, flowers, seedlings!
Don’t have your own garden? No worries…you can bring homemade preserves, baked goods, jam, pickles, spreads… you name it!
Bring a lot or a little it is up to you. Bring all the same thing or a few different things. We encourage reusable, earth-friendly packaging, no plastic bags please.
How much does it cost?
The beautiful thing is, it’s completely FREE! Our local community food swaps are free to all who attend and works on an honesty system and no money is to change hands. You constitute what you feel is right for what you have contributed. If you would like to donate supplies, please contact us.
Why start a food swap in your community?
Locally grown produce is fresher and tastier, it supports locals, eat seasonally fresh produce, you know how your food is grown, you create less emissions, reduce food miles and invest in our local community’s diversity.
We would love to hear from you?
We would love to hear from you if you would like to be involved in starting a food swap in your community, please email Monica and we will be only too happy to support many more local food swaps.
